Poor quality of berries in the large-scale retail trade in Italy

Low prices for blueberries, mainly from Chile, Spain, Peru and Morocco. Little currant present. Very expensive blackberries. And quality standards in general are not high. Here in summary is the snapshot taken by the Small Fruits Observatory today, February 20, 2024, in Milan. Twenty sales points belonging to 19 brands were involved, for a total of 16 large-scale retail groups visited. Specifically: Aldi, Bennet, Carrefour express, Carrefour Market, Conad, Coop, Esselunga, Eurospin, Il Gigante, iN's, Iperal, Ipercoop, Lidl, MD, Pam, Penny, Sigma, Tigros, U2. Assortment In the small fruit category, the sales points visited had between one and six references, with an average of 3.2 references per point of sale. In the 20 sales points visited where there is an assortment of small fruits: 85% have Raspberries in the assortment; 100% have Blueberries in the assortment; 55% have More in their assortment; 35% have Redcurrants in the assortment and 20% have Tris in the assortment.
