The open field plum harvesting season has begun in Mut district of Mersin, Turkey, a leading region for apricot and plum production. The district expects a yield of approximately 100 thousand tons this season, with current plum prices ranging from 50 to 350 Turkish Lira per kilogram, depending on size. These prices are anticipated to decrease slightly soon. Initially, under greenhouse conditions, the export price was $150 but has dropped with the commencement of open field harvesting. Plums are sorted by size for both domestic sales and significant exports to countries like Russia, Dubai, and various European and Middle Eastern nations, with high demand from the latter. Local agricultural representatives and producers are satisfied with the current prices and optimistic about the season's outlook.
