The State Fund for Agriculture in Bulgaria will allocate BGN 90 million in subsidies to fruit and vegetable producers, an increase from last year with rates for some produce rising by over 50%. The highest increase of 54% is for potatoes, onions, and garlic. The funding comes from a transfer of 140m levs from the rural program to direct payments. The fund has also increased inspections following the discovery of fraud in last year's campaign, where over 11,000 decares of land claimed for support was found to be unproductive. However, the identities of the violators and the penalties imposed remain undisclosed.
