France will increase the avian flu risk level from "negligible" to "moderate" due to the detection of the virus in migratory birds in neighboring countries. The country had previously lowered the risk to "negligible" in late April 2024, after being at "high" risk since December 2023. France, the only European country that vaccinates its livestock against avian flu, has lost billions of euros and euthanized millions of poultry due to the epizootic, which has affected various continents since 2015, with France experiencing outbreaks almost annually since the end of 2020.
