Bitter Grass Resistance Raises Alarm

The advance of multiple resistance in sourgrass (Digitaria insularis) is causing concern among producers and agricultural technicians in Chapadão do Céu (GO) and Chapadão do Sul (MS). According to José Herickson, agricultural manager at Grupo Safra, resistance of weed biotypes to the herbicides cletodim and haloxyfop-p-methyl (Group 1 – ACCase Inhibitors) and glyphosate (Group 9 – EPSPS Inhibitor) has been confirmed, as per the technical alert issued by HRAC-BR on July 14. The finding was made based on studies conducted with recognized methodologies, reinforcing the need for immediate control strategies. Sourgrass is already known for its ability to develop resistance, both simple and multiple, which requires constant vigilance in high-productivity agricultural areas and in more sensitive crops.
