By Pedro Lima São Paulo, 23/10/2025 - External member of the Monetary Policy Committee of the Bank of England (BoE) Swati Dhingra stated this Thursday that the new trade tariffs imposed by the United States tend to influence global growth and prices downward. In a speech at the Central Bank of Ireland, she assessed that, although the effects are still uncertain, "the tariffs act as a brake on global economic expansion," expected to reduce international diversification and the overall growth pace, with "some relief for prices in the medium term." Dhingra noted that the impact of the American tariffs should also be felt by third countries, including the United Kingdom, "through the weakening of global demand, the uncertainty that affects investment decisions, and the lower dynamism of international trade."
