Bolivia's potato production is lagging behind neighboring countries like Peru due to diseases affecting potato plants and seeds, which threaten local varieties with extinction. To address this, the Center for Biotechnology and Nanotechnology at Mayor San Simón University is developing a system to cultivate disease-free potato seeds, making them more affordable and sustainable. A new plant biofactory is being constructed to produce healthy plants on a large scale using advanced technology to simulate optimal growing conditions. This initiative aims to boost productivity, improve crop quality, and enhance food security in Bolivia.
