The UK has successfully restored exports of unprocessed pork to China, marking the end of Covid-19 restrictions and opening up a significant market for British pork producers. As the UK's largest pork export market, China absorbed £180 million worth of pig meat in 2023 and £117 million in the first three quarters of 2024. This development, praised as a 'massive win' by the Minister for food security, Daniel Zeichner, and the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB), was achieved through joint efforts by relevant government departments, industry bodies, and stakeholders, including a delegation meeting with the China Meat Association in June. This reconnection is anticipated to greatly benefit the UK pork sector, tapping into China's vast pork consumption market and demonstrating the quality and economic benefits of UK pork to Chinese consumers.
