During the year 2024, the body of inspectors for plant health and food products at the border conducted 314,000 checks on plant products, of which 2,000 were rejected. In addition, there were 69,000 checks on animal products, of which 700 batches were rejected during the past fiscal year, as explained by the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food in the Senate in response to a question posed by the Popular Senator Jorge Domingo Martínez, in the plenary session of the Upper House. Martínez asked whether there is sufficient personnel to carry out the official plant health checks at the border and of food products entering from third countries. Martínez Antolín said that plant health officials have filed an appeal and an administrative dispute upon evidence that "there are personnel who are not competent to carry out the inspections" in this matter, which only account for 1% of the food that reaches the borders of third countries.
