The number of Brazilian establishments authorized to export sesame to China has increased from 31 to 61, practically doubling the number of qualified establishments, according to a new list released by the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC). This expansion consolidates Brazil's progress in exporting the oilseed and reinforces ties with the world's largest consumer of the product. The opening of the Chinese market for Brazilian sesame was announced in November 2024, during the official visit of President Xi Jinping to Brazil. The authorization was the 200th market opening of the current administration, the result of a coordinated negotiation process between the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa), the Agricultural Attaché in Beijing, the Brazilian Embassy in Beijing, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE), and the national private sector, which worked together to meet the requirements set by Chinese authorities.
