Viracopos International Airport in Campinas, Brazil, has made the first shipment of 34 tons of fresh tilapia fillets to the United States following the abolition of the International Health Certificate (CSI) in October. This significant event marks the beginning of a new era for Brazilian fish exports to the US, marked by reduced bureaucracy, cost savings, and enhanced efficiency. The streamlined process, which was a collaborative effort between various stakeholders including Vigiagro, is expected to cut the time from fish removal to shelf arrival from 48 to 36 hours. Despite the process simplification, health control measures remain stringent, adhering to the standards set by the US Food and Drug Administration. This development is set to boost Brazil's competitiveness and confidence in its fish products on the global market.
