The Brazilian government announced with gratitude the Costa Rican government's decision to permit Brazil to export avocados to Costa Rica, marking it as the third market in 2024 to open for Brazilian agricultural products. This move is anticipated to boost bilateral trade, given Costa Rica's significance as a market for Brazilian agribusiness. In the first half of the year, Brazil's agricultural exports to Costa Rica totaled US$153 million. This development is part of Brazil's broader strategy to expand its agricultural market reach, having already opened 89 markets in 2023, with a total of 167 openings in 55 destinations since the year's start, a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE).
