Brazil preventively suspends exports of poultry meat and its products

The Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) has reviewed the certification for poultry and their product exports to 44 countries following an outbreak of Newcastle disease in a commercial poultry production establishment in Anta Gorda, Rio Grande do Sul. The review is part of a bilateral agreement to meet international health requirements and guarantees. The suspension of certification affects poultry meat, eggs, and other poultry products, with the suspension period ranging from 21 days to a 50km radius around the outbreak. This suspension affects countries such as China, Argentina, Peru, and Mexico, and products like poultry meat cannot be exported from areas within a 50km radius of the outbreak. Despite the suspension, products subjected to heat treatment can still be certified for export to certain countries. Rio Grande do Sul, the third-largest chicken meat exporter in Brazil, exported 354 thousand tons in the first half of the year, generating revenue of US$630 million.
