A collaboration between Brazil's Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa) and India's International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) has led to the importation of ICRISAT's entire chickpea germplasm bank to Brazil. The received seeds are currently in quarantine for testing and analysis before being integrated into Embrapa's Chickpea Active Germplasm Bank. This integration aims to enhance Brazil's chickpea genetic improvement programs, leading to the development of new cultivars with improved pest and drought tolerance. This initiative, facilitated by the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture, is expected to enhance Brazil's chickpea production and export possibilities.
