Brazil has temporarily stopped poultry meat exports to Europe, China, and Argentina due to a Newcastle disease outbreak in Rio Grande do Sul, the first since 2006, which killed 7,000 birds. The Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture has suspended new export certifications and banned various poultry products to these regions. Additional restrictions apply within a 50-kilometer radius of the outbreak for several other countries, though thermally treated and processed products can still be exported to the EU, Argentina, South Africa, Uruguay, and Chile. Preventive slaughter will occur in the most affected area. Brazil, a major global chicken supplier, ranks third in chicken meat export volumes.
