Brazil's trade with Africa is deemed to have great potential by the Secretary for Africa and the Middle East of Brazil's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Carlos Sérgio Sobral Duarte. Despite trade currently being modest, with Brazil, India, and China having significantly different trade volumes with Africa, Duarte points out the potential for expansion, especially considering that two-thirds of Mercosur's exports to Africa are to countries without a trade agreement. The main destinations for Brazilian exports to Africa include Algeria, Egypt, South Africa, Morocco, and Nigeria, while the main imports are from these countries, as well as Angola and South Africa. In 2021, Africa represented only 3.5% of Brazil’s global trade, with South Africa being the main African investor in Brazil, and Angola the main recipient of Brazilian investment. The 12th Brazil Africa Forum highlighted the need to expand and strengthen the Brazil-Africa partnership.
