Brazilian Canola Gains Strength as a Sustainable Fuel

With 100% seeds produced in Brazil, canola cultivation emerges as a promising alternative in the production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). The crop, already known for vegetable oil and animal feed production, is becoming an ally in addressing climate change, contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. According to the National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac), the Brazilian air sector recorded over 925,000 takeoffs in 2024, with more than 118 million passengers. This growth raises an alert, as aviation accounts for around 3.5% of global CO2 emissions. SAF, made from renewable raw materials, can reduce these emissions by up to 90%, compared to conventional kerosene. In this scenario, canola emerges as a viable alternative.
