Brazilian fruit exports experienced a 21.39% increase in volume and a 23.22% increase in value in the first four months of 2021 compared to the same period in 2020, according to the 5th Prohort Bulletin by the National Supply Company (Conab). Europe was the primary destination for these fruits, with the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and Spain being the main importers. There was also a significant increase in apple and watermelon exports. The flower and ornamental plant sector saw major suppliers like Kenya, Ethiopia, Colombia, and Ecuador encountering challenges, which allowed Brazilian products to gain more market share. Despite social isolation measures leading to a drop in demand, the sector adapted through a strong expansion of electronic commerce and delivery platforms, enabling a resumption of business.
