Brazil's fruit industry is making inroads into new international markets, with a particular focus on China. The two countries are working on phytosanitary protocols for the export of grapes, lemons, and avocados to China. Brazil, the world's third-largest fruit producer, is hoping to expedite grape exports to China, expecting to reach a value of $9 million. In addition to its existing fruit export markets in the European Union, the UK, and the US, Brazil is also looking at potential avocado exports to the US and Japan. So far this year, Brazil has successfully entered four new markets, exporting figs to Argentina and apples to Colombia, Nicaragua, and Senegal. The Brazilian Apple Producers Association aims to capture 10% of Colombia's apple market by 2022.
