In February, Brazil received significant rice purchases from several countries including Gambia, Venezuela, Senegal, Sierra Leone, the United States, Cape Verde, Peru, Bolivia, Canada, and Panama, totaling 103,755 tons with revenues of US$ 30.5 million. Despite these strong sales, the export volume was lower than February 2022, marking a decline in annual revenue. However, the first two months of 2023 still saw substantial growth in rice exports, reaching 252,588 tons and generating US$ 78.6 million. The Brazilian Rice Industry Association (Abiarroz) is actively pursuing opportunities to expand into the Chinese market, leveraging China's status as the world's largest rice producer and consumer. Additionally, the Brazilian rice industry is receiving recognition for its sustainable practices, such as the reuse of methane gas from rice husks for clean energy production.
