The Australian Meat Industry Council has created new resources to promote the Australian Government Authorised Halal Program abroad, thanks to a government grant. The resources, available in multiple languages, aim to understand Australian halal systems better. In 2021, Australia exported approximately $2.36 billion worth of halal certified meat products. The country's halal certified red meat export success is due to markets like the Middle East and Indonesia, and the growth in chilled and frozen meat exports to Iran. However, the sector faces challenges such as labour availability and differing halal interpretations. Despite these challenges, cattle and lamb slaughter levels have reached record highs this year.
