In the first quarter of 2020, canned tuna imports from EU member countries saw a decrease in both volume and value, primarily due to Brexit. The EU imported 138,389 tons of canned tuna, a decrease of 6,360 tons from the same period in 2019. The average price per ton of canned tuna also decreased by 7% compared to the previous year. Despite the UK's departure from the EU reducing imports, this was offset by the Netherlands, which saw a 105% increase in imports. Germany remained the largest importer of canned tuna in the EU, followed by the Netherlands and Portugal, which experienced a 60% increase in imports for domestic consumption.
