Burke Agro, a Nicaraguan agricultural development agency, is planning to re-introduce organically certified Nicaraguan red dragon fruit to the European market in June 2021. The company aims to differentiate this strain from Asian varieties by highlighting its higher pigmentation and nutritional value. Burke Agro, which has been supporting around 1,200 micro growers since 2007, buys and sells their fresh organic fruit, with a particular focus on red dragon fruit. The company is working towards achieving GlobalGAP status and has received B-corporation, Fairtrade, organic, and HACCP certifications.
