By 2028, the largest grain terminal on the Caspian Sea will be built in the port of Makhachkala.

In Makhachkala, plans are underway to construct a new grain terminal with a handling capacity of 1.5 million tons per year and a storage capacity of 100,000 tons at a time, reports TASS citing the press service of the Makhachkala Sea Trade Port. The project will increase the port's existing capacity almost threefold: currently, the grain terminal's capacity stands at around 0.5 million tons per year. Construction work is expected to be completed by the end of 2028. In addition to the new grain terminal, plans are in place to modernize the container terminal, with costs to be covered by the port's own funds. As part of state support, a four-lane highway is being built from the port to the federal highways Astrakhan – Makhachkala and Rostov – Baku, which will improve cargo logistics.
