The OECD-FAO forecasts a 14% increase in world sugar production by 2033, reaching 202.1 million tons. Sugar cane is expected to make up over 85% of this production, with Brazil as the leading producer due to increased investment and expansion in sugarcane cultivation. Productivity improvements in India and Thailand are also anticipated to boost sugar production. In Africa, particularly in South Africa, sugarcane production is expected to grow due to government support. Europe will continue to be the main region for sugar beet production, with Russia seeing an increase. In Egypt, the introduction of higher-yielding seed varieties is expected to increase sugar production, making it the largest sugar beet producer in Africa by 2033.
