Prices for white cabbage in Ukraine have surged to record-high levels, with farms charging 34-40 UAH per kg, a 15% increase from the previous week, making it the most expensive item in the borscht set. This price hike is due to farmers limiting sales as cabbage stocks decline, leading to a reduction in market offers and a scarcity of medium and low-quality vegetables. Compared to last year, cabbage prices have increased by 3.7 times, and there are fears that they may rise further as stocks continue to deplete. Additionally, the cost of potatoes in Ukraine has also increased by 12%. In a positive development, Ukrainian farmers may soon benefit from European grants of up to $25 thousand, and by 2025, Ukraine aims to establish a private system of vegetable storage facilities to address such price fluctuations and food shortages.
