In the first seven months of this year, Cambodia saw significant growth in its fresh banana exports, reaching 270,222 tons, or 40% of its total banana production. China and Vietnam were the primary recipients of these exports, benefiting from a free trade agreement that has increased access to bananas, mangoes, and milled rice from Cambodia. The Covid-19 pandemic, however, has impacted banana export profits, with the Philippine Banana Growers and Exporters Association reporting a 15% drop due to increased shipping costs and shipment delays. Additionally, Cambodia has begun exporting bananas to Japan, making up 1% of its total banana exports this year. The country's production diversity includes other crops such as rice, rubber, cassava, cashews, corn, pepper, beans, mangoes, and vegetables.
