Vietnam's cashew nut industry is experiencing a dynamic shift, with a notable decrease in imports but a significant increase in exports. In August 2024, cashew imports fell by 27.5% in volume and 18.2% in value, primarily sourced from Cambodia, which supplies 98.5% of its cashew exports to Vietnam. Despite this, Vietnam's cashew exports rose by 22.9% in volume and 21.8% in value, with export prices increasing for four consecutive months. In 2023, Vietnam exported 644,120 tons of cashews worth 3.64 billion USD, while importing 2.75 million tons of raw cashews. The trend of rising imports is also seen in other agricultural products like rice and coffee, with rice imports nearing 1 billion USD in the first nine months of 2024, reflecting Vietnam's strategy to meet both domestic and export demands.
