Mondulkiri province in Cambodia is planning to produce around 500 tonnes of potatoes annually to meet rising domestic demand. The potato cultivation will bring high income for farmers and create more jobs in the province. The department is currently unable to produce the potato varieties ideal for its soil and is waiting to collaborate with the Potato Research Center. Import of potatoes in Cambodia has exceeded 5,000 tonnes annually from countries like Thailand, Vietnam, China, Japan, Australia, and the US. The research center, a collaboration between the Ministry of Agriculture, the Korean International Cooperation Agency, and the Royal University of Agriculture, has temporarily halted its operations due to COVID-19.
