Cambodia has temporarily banned the import of farmed fish, including catfish and snakehead, from neighboring countries due to complaints from local fish farms about a flood of smuggled fish in the market. This has led to a decrease in domestic fish prices. The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries has asked the Cambodian Aquaculture Association to collect data on domestic fish production and consumption to support local traders in sourcing domestic fish for the market. The Ministry has received support from other stakeholders for this decision. Meanwhile, the domestic fish production in Cambodia has seen a significant increase, reaching 400,000 tons in 2020, with an additional 413,000 tons from fish caught from natural lakes and the sea, and 122,000 tons from imported fish.
