In the first seven months of 2024, Cambodia has emerged as the world's second largest raw cashew producer, with a production of 830,000 tons, trailing behind Côte d'Ivoire. The country has seen a significant increase in its cashew production due to expanded planting areas. To further bolster its cashew industry, Cambodia aims to invest US$329 million to align with the "2022-2027 Cashew National Policy," focusing on infrastructure development and processing. The government aspires for Cambodia to become a global leader in cashew production by 2030, targeting a 25% increase in value-added cashew processing by 2027. Currently, only 10% of the cashews produced in Cambodia are processed domestically, with the majority being exported for processing in Vietnam and other countries.
