Cameroon launches 2024-2025 cocoa season with favorable outlook and record prices

At a ceremony held on August 8 in the town of Mvengué, in the Southern Ocean Department, Cameroon officially opened the 2024-2025 cocoa season. The event comes at a time when the country’s cocoa sector is experiencing an unprecedented period of economic prosperity, with bean prices reaching record levels. In announcing the start of the season on August 6, Trade Minister Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana highlighted that the new harvest builds on the momentum of the previous one, which was marked by an extraordinary increase in prices and the strengthening of Cameroon as a global reference for high-quality cocoa. “Cameroonian producers are now among the best paid globally,” said the minister, emphasizing the economic importance of cocoa for the country.
