Scholars of blue carbon from both domestic and abroad are gathering attention as they discuss the certification of seaweed as a new blue carbon source. The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, the Korea Fisheries Resources Agency, and Hyundai Motors held the 'International Forum on Sea Forest' at the Seoul Glad Yeouido Hotel's Blue Hall on the 20th. Based on the discussions at this forum, our plan is to ensure that the high carbon absorption capacity of seaweed is ultimately reflected in the methodology report. To this end, this year's forum included in-depth discussions on the carbon absorption methodology of seaweed as a blue carbon source. The Korea Fisheries Resources Agency, which has been leading the world's first sea forest creation project since 2009, expects to create a sea forest of 540 km² (54,000 ha) by 2030, achieving an annual carbon dioxide absorption effect of 182,000 tons. This forum began with a keynote lecture by Professor Catherine Lovelock (Queensland University, ...
