The Government of Canada has pledged to allocate hundreds of millions of dollars and ease regulatory provisions to stimulate the production of biofuels, which, according to the country's agriculture minister, faces stiff competition from the United States. Prime Minister Mark Carney named the support of the biofuel and canola industries as one of six areas highlighted in the aid announcement, intended to help companies cope with the damage from U.S. tariffs and trade disruptions. Canadian canola, an ingredient in some types of biofuel, also faces high tariffs and duties in China, the largest export market for canola seeds.
