Cane production for the sugar industry in Peru exceeded 10 million MT in 2023

The Peruvian Association of Agroindustrial Sugar and Derivatives (Perucaña) reported that the production of sugar cane in Peru, destined for the table sugar industry, totaled 10 million 88,870 metric tons (MT) in 2023. If we add the production of cane for ethanol, exceeds 12 million MT. In the case of the production of table sugar, used in homes and the industry in general, this figure represents a slight advance of 5% compared to the 9 million 583,740 MT registered in 2022, and is still below 10 million 929,340 MT in 2019, in the pre-pandemic period. The regions with the greatest progress were La Libertad, with 5 million 186,000 MT (+8.5%); Lima, with 1 million 471,000 MT (+0.9%); and Piura, with 685,700 MT (+227%). However, there was a decline in production in the regions of Lambayeque, with 1 million 890,000 MT (-13%); Arequipa, with 58,600 MT (-10%); and Áncash, with 798,000 MT (-3%).
