[Reporter Du-hyun Lee, Korea Farmers' News] The Central Government announced that it will provide 1 billion won in special export promotion funds to help the strawberry farmers in the Sancheong region of Gyeongnam province recover quickly from the damages caused by the concentrated heavy rains in July. The Sancheong region in Gyeongnam province experienced extreme rainfall with an average of 632mm between July 16 and 20. This rainfall caused a total of 2,009 incidents, amounting to 445.6 billion won in damages, including 418 hectares of farmland and 208 hectares of horticultural facilities being submerged. In particular, numerous strawberry farms reported damages such as broken greenhouses and submerged seedlings that were waiting to be planted. As a result, there will also be disruptions in the production and export of strawberries this winter.
