Thailand's Commerce Ministry is taking significant steps to establish Chanthaburi as a top fruit exporter to China, with a focus on durian and mangosteen, targeting sales exceeding 3 billion baht. Through an MoU with the Thai-Chinese Agricultural Import-Export Association and the China Fruit Marketing Association, the initiative aims to ensure stable pricing and increased income for Thai farmers, while also enhancing the global reputation of Thai fruits. Chanthaburi, known for its tropical fruits, has already secured contracts for up to 20,000 tonnes of these fruits with Chinese buyers. The ministry is facilitating durian exports through various Chinese customs checkpoints and has set up trade promotion offices in China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. With fruit production expected to rise in 2024, the Department of Internal Trade is implementing 22 measures to manage supply and ensure export quality, indicating a comprehensive approach to boost Thailand's fruit export sector.
