The Peruvian agricultural sector has experienced a boost in growth in international markets, particularly due to the pandemic, with a surge in demand for natural and healthy food products. Non-traditional exports like kion, citrus fruits, chia, and Amazonian chestnuts have seen significant growth between January and April of this year, with chia and chestnuts experiencing over 60% and 260% growth in exports, respectively. However, the sector faces challenges such as the rising cost of freight and container contracting due to the increasing dollar value, and delays in obtaining health certificates for export due to the prioritization of vaccine distribution, which is affecting competitiveness in the international market.
