Hong Kong has halted the importation of chicken and eggs from Portugal due to outbreaks of avian influenza, with the city already suspending imports from certain districts and not importing any poultry products from Portugal in 2021. The Hong Kong Center for Food Safety is monitoring the situation, which was worsened by a recent outbreak in a turkey and chicken farm in Torres Vedras, Lisbon. The Portuguese Director-General for Food and Veterinary Medicine (DGAV) announced the detection of bird flu in other districts and farms since December 2, but assures that there is no evidence of the virus being transmitted to humans through the consumption of poultry products.
