Russian chickpeas are currently the cheapest option for Turkey, with plans to increase supplies to $200 million in the future. In 2022, Russia became the top exporter of chickpeas to Turkey, with a market share of 51.3% in terms of quantity and 39% in terms of value. A new flexible export duty linked to the ruble exchange rate will apply to chickpea exports from October 1, 2023, with a reduced rate of 5.5% in December.
