Children of coffee farmers from Vraem train as professional tasters

The National Commission for Development and Life without Drugs (Devida) is developing the Training Course for Special Coffee Tasters with the aim of Q Grader certification, with the goal of training a new generation of specialists who will guarantee the excellence of coffee produced in the Valley of the Rivers Apurímac, Ene, and Mantaro (Vraem). The initiative benefits 20 young people who are children of coffee producers from the northern, central, and southern areas of the valley, who develop their technical skills and strengthen their leadership in the coffee value chain. For 25 days, in the city of Quillabamba (Cusco), the participants receive theoretical and practical training in coffee sensory analysis according to the protocols of the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA). Through sessions on recognizing aromas, flavors, acidity, body, and balance, they learn to identify the attributes that determine the quality of specialty coffee.
