The Chilean Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG) has announced a breakthrough in trade relations with Brazil, with the im impending opening of the Brazilian market for Chilean melons. This development follows the publication of Ordinance SDA/MAPA No. 1,160 by the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture, outlining the phytosanitary conditions for melon export. The agreement, which stemmed from negotiations that began in 2019 and were approved in April 2024, allows Chilean melons to be exported to Brazil, a country that is both a consumer and producer of melons. Additionally, Chile and Brazil are making headway in negotiations for the import of Hass avocados from Brazil to Chile, aiming to satisfy Chile's ever-increasing demand for avocados. The final regulations for this import are anticipated to be established by late September or early October of this year.
