The Chilean Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG) has announced a breakthrough in trade negotiations with Brazil, successfully opening the market for Chilean melons (Cucumis melo) to the Brazilian public. This milestone, achieved after years of negotiations that began in 2019, is marked by the publication of Ordinance SDA/MAPA No. 1,160, which sets the phytosanitary standards for Chilean melon exports to Brazil. In addition to melons, Chile and Brazil are also working towards the export of Hass avocados from Brazil to Chile, aiming to bolster bi-directional trade and offer consumers a wider variety of fresh produce. This development is anticipated to benefit producers in both countries and strengthen the agricultural sector, reflecting a commitment to enhancing trade relations and exchanging high-quality agricultural products.
