Indonesia: Chili prices still expensive, Jokowi says seasonal factor

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) commented on the recent increase in the price of chilies which have become increasingly hot. According to the President, this condition occurred due to seasonal factors. "It always fluctuates like that, during the rainy season the chilies that are planted usually rot, so people produce them during certain seasons, but not throughout the year," said Jokowi after distributing El Nino BLT in Manado, Thursday (28/12/2023). Even so, he said, the price of chilies in the Java region had decreased to IDR 75,000 per kilogram. Although in some places it is acknowledged that it is still above IDR 100,000 per kilogram. According to the Food Agency's Price Panel, the national average price of red cayenne pepper at retail level on (28/12/2023) was IDR 80,290 per kilogram.
