China and India are the two largest onion producers in the world

Clearly, China and India lead the list of onion-producing countries, as both countries can each produce seven times the yield of third-place finishers. The third, by the way, is the United States. According to FAO data, 45,280 tons of onions were grown in Hungary in 2019. With an annual harvest of 24.91 million tons, China is the world leader in the world ranking of onion-producing countries. India follows the list with a result of 22.82 million tonnes.
