China authorizes the import of Spanish cherry following a years-long negotiation process

The General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) has published the registry of Spanish establishments authorized for the export of cherries to this country, so sales can now begin, as reported this Monday by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA). For the Department, the authorization of exports puts "full stop" to a complex negotiation process that has lasted several years. In 2024, technicians from the Chinese Government visited cherry-producing areas in Spain and in April of this year, the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Luis Planas, and the Minister of the General Administration of Customs of China, Sun Meijun, signed the cherry export protocol in Beijing. The agreement includes the obligation for the Chinese customs authorities to conduct an audit prior to the start of exports.
