In 2024, China's banana imports saw a decrease in both volume and value compared to the previous year, with a total of 1.69 million tons imported, valued at 908 million USD, marking a 4.6% decrease in volume and a 16% decrease in value. Vietnam emerged as the top supplier, with a 38% increase in volume and a 7% increase in value, contributing to 37% of China's total banana imports. On the other hand, imports from the Philippines experienced a sharp decline, with a 32% decrease in volume and a 39% decrease in value, accounting for 27% of China's total banana imports. The average import price of bananas to China also decreased by 12.1% compared to 2023, reaching 538 USD/ton, with the exception of imports from Mexico, which saw an increase in price.
