China is the world's leading citrus producer, with a 7% increase in production in 2023, reaching over 64 million tons. The majority of this production comes from the southern provinces of Guangxi and Guangdong, with significant contributions from Hunan, Hubei, Jiangxi, Fujian, Chongqing, Sichuan, Yunnan, and Guizhou. Oranges, mandarins, and grapefruit are the main citrus varieties grown. However, production for the 2024-25 crop is expected to slightly increase despite challenges such as cold weather and disease. Chinese orange imports are projected to decrease by 6% in the 2024-25 marketing year, while exports are expected to rise due to strong demand from other Asian countries.
