Norwegian Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, Marianne Sivertsen Næss, has successfully secured China's approval for the import of live snow crab from Norway, marking a significant milestone in enhancing Norwegian interests in the Asian market. This development is particularly important as it taps into the growing demand for live snow crab in Asia, offering substantial opportunities for Norwegian exporters. To bolster market access for seafood, the Norwegian Food Safety Authority has been allocated a budget of 8 million Norwegian kroner for 2024. Furthermore, the quota for live snow crab exports has been increased by 10%, with the United States showing strong interest by importing 7.8 million pounds of the product this year, a significant increase from previous years. The future looks bright for the export of other live seafood products from Norway to China, with negotiations underway for the export of items such as blue crab, sea urchins, and oysters.
