China has significantly reduced imports of frozen cod from Norway

The UK, Vietnam and Latvia were the largest markets for frozen cod in the third quarter. A fall of as much as 35 percent in frozen whole cod export volumes resulted in a significant decline in the value of exports in the third quarter. The volume of frozen fillets increased by 13 percent and amounted to 1,700 tons. Export volumes to China fell a significant 74 percent in the third quarter, and the country was only the fourth largest destination for frozen cod during the period. “Our export data since 1988 shows that for the first time in a quarter, China is not among the top two destination countries for frozen cod. Latvia, Vietnam and Portugal stand out with volume increases of 700, 700 and 400 tonnes respectively,” says seafood analyst Eivind Hestvik Brekkan from the Norwegian Seafood Council.
